Their Final Memories
On the precipice of darkness, life, and rebirth, there is said to be a path that is only seen in our dreams; a path whose entrance shines in the retinas of our existence for one-ten-thousandth of a second, burning it’s phenomenon into our memories, and then it is gone forever. Some have called it heaven, God, a ghostly premonition, destiny’s calling…and yet still the path remains hidden. There have been many who have ventured to its depths, who have walked the lines and edges nearing the path, seeing death bring life, and darkness out of light, only to be forgotten by the void of the final challenge befo
Chapter 16: Rage
The guns were cocked and pointed and the thumping continued in my head. The memories flowing back were enough to induce a coma but instead it just fueled me to stay awake. Snipez was grinning beside me, his head tilted down and his blond hair covering his murderous grin. I was the one who killed this world, the one whose very blood drove men, women, and children insane, that the end times have come, and yet here I was, alive, for whatever few seconds I had left, tied up. The only thought that came to me was not, “I want to live”, or “I have to get out of here”. I looked at these people and only thoug
Chapter 15: The Hunt
I looked at Daniel on the floor, his body twitching, his mouth frothing and drooling a little. What the hell had she done to him? She just stood over him, her heeled foot pressing on his neck a little, and her make-shift skirt revealing a little more than a peeping toms view from Daniel’s perspective.
“Well, isn’t this lovely!” Sheila exclaimed, her dominance obviously empowering Daniel, yet my gun still trained on her, “Oh don’t be so rash, Stanley, don’t you like bossy girls in skinned fur?”
My mind was rushing, kill…Kill…KILL, but I oddly resisted it, too

We burst in, climbing through a pile of bodies, and walked through the now quiet hallways of one of Sheila’s bunkers. Snipez didn’t even glance at a body, his stride and mind trudging on down the hall.
“How does it feel?” I asked.
“What do you mean? I got no time for philosophical shit, Sheila’s right down her—” he said before I stopped him.
“How does it feel to take a life and keep on living?” I interrupted.
We both looked at each other for a long while, his grip finally tightening around the barrel of his sniper he was carrying, and then he grunted

Breathe in.
Breathe out.
Let go.
The first shot was dead-on, between the eyes, and the ones that followed hit other various kill-spots. In the heart, gutted through the liver, piercing the jugular; I was on a streak of silent death, but my blood-lust never reached its peak because of the time it took to re-adjust, aim, then test the wind between every shot. Snipez, however, found a way to compensate this.
“Hey Daniel…” Snipez radioed in. “Yeah Snipez? I’m kind of a busy with a shot here.” I said. “But Daniel…” Snipez crackled, “I’m bored…&r

Three weeks had passed, and I had not heard from Snipez, or from anyone else. It was an eerie silence; I still heard the groans of the hobos and the shouts and whoops of the mercenaries that Sheila would send out on nightly raids. She had already searched my hotel during my departure. There was stuff and clothing and spoiled food strewn all throughout the room. It seems they only searched the rooms that looked occupied, but I had found one that seemed clean and dainty; ready for the family that never checked in. I had periodic flashbacks of the room they kept me in, my blood pooling all around me, and yet I was

So I climbed a hill, mission peak, the other day and sat underneath a huge leaning tree and saw the overlooking fremont sky. It was like looking at a fancy GPS map; the horizon blanketing the top and kissing the tips of the mountains with a fiery glow of the sunset and the twinkling diagonal lights of the suburban city below just about brighter than that. I thought about how some of my friends, some that I've known for years, had just now brought up to me their weaknesses and their abuse; their troubles and hardships. I shamefully compared them to my own, and saw that I might as well have gotten it easier. Every atom of my being wanted to jus
